According to the Sun Times, in Chicago, in mid-March, a person was killed when he slipped under a bus after being dropped off at a bus stop. The Transit Authority (CTA) is being sued in a wrongful death action because of the bus accident.
The lawsuit alleges that the Transit Authority was negligent in failing to wait until the decedent was safe on the curb before pulling out. According to the lawsuit, the bus driver should have looked in the mirrors before pulling away, made sure the passenger was safely on the curb, and immediately stopped the bus after the passenger fell.
The wrongful death lawsuit demonstrates how everyone is so caught up in maximizing time and profits; they forget to take ordinary care in ensuring the safety of those in their care. In this case, the bus driver, perhaps in a hurry to keep on schedule, appears not to have exercised the degree of care and caution that could have prevented the death of one the passengers on the bus.
