We represented a 76-year-old who suffered a severed spinal cord when he was rear-ended by a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus. The bus driver was drunk, and our investigation revealed an extensive history of substance abuse and prior accidents. The accident left our client as a T-5 paraplegic. The settlement included enough money to provide him with the needed life care diagnosed by our experts.

Our 36-year-old client was lawfully driving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on I-80 near Hayward when a van suddenly and without warning changed lanes into him, striking his motorcycle and foot. The defendant attempted to avoid or limit liability by claiming that our client contributed to the accident by speeding. However, through the testimony of our motorcycle accident expert, we established that our client was not speeding. Our client suffered a severe foot fracture, requiring surgery and a career change.

$1,578,500 — Brain injury settlement for pedestrian accident victim

We represented a 12-year-old girl against the city of Milpitas and a general contractor for failing to warn about a non-functioning signal at a mid-block pedestrian school crossing. During litigation, a city employee who worked on the project admitted that she knew before the accident that the non-functioning crossing would be a problem but took no steps to correct the problem or issue a warning. Our client suffered a traumatic brain injury when a van struck her while she was using the crossing.

$1,136,000 — Back and spinal cord injury settlement for motorcycle accident

Our 30-year-old client from Vallejo was riding his motorcycle slightly above the speed limit when a slow-moving backhoe in front of him moved partially into the shoulder and then started turning left in front of him, causing him to lay down his motorcycle and fracture his back and injure his spinal cord, which required spinal fusions at two vertebral levels. We represented a 29-year-old tow truck driver from Vacaville who was struck by a car while hooking up a tow. Our client had his leg severely crushed and suffered a degloving injury that requiring multiple surgeries. We settled the lawsuit for the car driver’s $50,000 insurance policy. She passed away before the lawsuit settled, and her estate added $120,000. We also made an underinsured motorist claim against our client’s employer’s automobile uninsured/underinsured motorist policy, which added $950,000.

$1,080,050 — Bone fracture verdict from motorcycle collision

We represented a 29-year-old who rode his motorcycle over the posted speed limit and collided with an automobile pulling out from a stop sign in San Francisco. Our client suffered multiple upper- and lower-extremity fractures, rib fractures and pulmonary injury. The automobile driver was uninsured, so we sued the owner of a van allegedly parked in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection. We argued to the jury that the van caused a visual obstruction for our client and the other driver as they entered the intersection. The jury returned a total verdict of $1,080,050, which was reduced by 50 percent for our client’s admitted speeding.

Our personal injury attorneys represented a 42-year-old who was struck in the back of the head and neck by a piece of equipment that protruded from the bed of a passing pick-up truck. We proved that the client suffered a neck and traumatic brain injury, causing an extended disability.

In this medical malpractice case, we represented the wife and children of a man who complained to his primary care physician for a year of upper respiratory infections and bronchitis. The physician did not order needed tests or refer the patient to the necessary specialists, who could have revealed that he had leukemia.

$750,000 — Brain injury verdict from bar shooting

We represented a 38-year-old who became involved in a verbal argument with the bartender of an Oakland bar when the bartender pulled a loaded pistol and struck our client on the head with it. The gun fired, and a bullet struck our client’s head. The defendant bartender alleged self-defense, and the defendant bar claimed that the bartender was acting outside the scope of his employment. Our client suffered a traumatic brain injury but by the time of trial was back to work. We rejected the defendant bar's offer of $156,000 before trial. The jury awarded a verdict of $750,000 against both bar and bartender.

We assisted a 42-year-old who was driving her Harley-Davidson motorcycle on a country road when a car pulled in front of her from a stop sign. She drove her motorcycle into a ditch in an attempt to avoid a collision and fractured her wrist, developing reflex sympathetic dystrophy that necessitated extensive medical treatment.

$171,000 — Dislocated-toe verdict from lane-splitting motorcycle accident

Our 43-year-old client was lane-splitting on the San Mateo Bridge when the defendant opened his car door and our client ran into it. Our client dislocated his toe and had out-of-pocket medical expenses totaling $18,843. Before trial, we rejected the defendant’s offer of $80,000. At trial, we convinced the jury to award $171,000. We believe our skill in jury selection made this verdict possible.

$150,000 — Soft-tissue injury verdict from Muni bus accident

Our client, a 17-year-old student from San Francisco, suffered lower extremity lacerations, soft-tissue sprains and psychological injury when a Muni bus struck her and then slammed into a bus shelter. We rejected an arbitration award of $37,500. On the first day of trial, Muni offered $95,000, which we also rejected. We obtained a $150,000 jury verdict for our client.

$115,000 — Bone fracture and amputation settlement from car accident

We represented a 35-year-old who was driving her car on a Sonoma County road when a tree branch fell through her windshield, causing her to lose control of her car and strike a tree. The county admitted that it knew the branch needed to be cut down but claimed that it did not have funding for the necessary maintenance. Our client suffered a fractured finger and partial amputation of the fingertip (nail area).

$90,000 — Soft-tissue injury verdict for drunk driver in car accident

We represented a drunk driver who was injured when a car made an improper left turn at a green light and struck our client’s car. Our client, who was driving with a 0.17 blood alcohol level, suffered soft-tissue neck injuries and headaches. We convinced the jury that his intoxication did not matter when he properly entered an intersection on a green light and was struck at high speed by a car that made a left turn against the light and into his path. Although the defense offered $12,500, we convinced the jury to award our client $90,000. We believe our skill in selecting an unbiased jury helped us attain our verdict at trial.

Significant verdict for knee injury from lesbian motorcycle wreck

We represented a 28-year-old member of the “Dykes on Bikes” San Francisco lesbian motorcycle club. She suffered lacerations and a knee injury when she attempted to pass a double-parked car that suddenly moved into her path without signaling. The insurance company for the defendant believed there would be great bias against our client because of her sexual orientation and made a low offer. We successfully obtained a jury verdict that was four times as much as the defense had offered before trial.
